Department Overview
Established in 2003, MCKV Institute of Engineering is a pioneer in introducing Automobile Engineering education in Eastern India. The department offers an AICTE-approved 4-year B.Tech. program under the affiliation of MAKAUT. With a team of young, dynamic, and experienced faculty members, the department is committed to delivering quality education while nurturing innovation in areas such as product design, functional utility, and integrated automotive technologies.

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories that support both fundamental and advanced learning. Key facilities include the Engine Testing & Pollution Measurement Lab and the Vehicle Maintenance Lab, featuring setups for wheel balancing, wheel alignment, and headlight focusing. In addition, students gain hands-on experience in basic laboratories such as Chassis Components Lab, Engine Components Lab, and Design Lab, ensuring a strong practical foundation.

The department maintains strong industry linkages through collaborative laboratories and training centres established with leading organizations such as Ather Energy Limited (EV Lab), Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd., Bosch Limited, BMW India, Hyundai Motors, and Dassault Systems. These partnerships enable students to receive industry-relevant training in Electric Vehicles, Automotive Electrical & Electronics, and Advanced Automotive Technologies.

Flagship initiatives include the MCKVIE-VECV Centre for Automotive Technology (since 2012), BOSCH-MCKVIE Joint Certification Centre (since 2018), and the Ather Energy-MCKVIE Joint Centre for Electric Vehicles (operational since February 2026). These centres significantly enhance students’ technical competencies and employability.

As an active member of SAE India, the department encourages students to design and manufacture vehicles for prestigious national-level competitions such as BAJA SAE, eBAJA, SUPRA SAE, SAEINDIA REEV, and EFFICYCLE. Students have consistently achieved recognition and accolades in these events, showcasing their technical and innovative capabilities.

Graduates from the department are well placed in leading automotive companies, manufacturing industries, the automotive insurance sector, government organizations, and as successful entrepreneurs in India and abroad. A strong academic foundation, combined with extensive industry exposure, ensures that students are well prepared to meet the evolving demands of the automotive and mobility industry.
