Electronics and Communication (VLSI Design)

MCKV Institute of Engineering (MCKVIE) is one of the leading futuristic engineering colleges in West Bengal offering new age B.Tech in Electronics and Communication course with VLSI Design specialization. By introducing VLSI Design course the Department aspires to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of circuits and systems which is essential for electronics chip manufacturing industry. The program will deal with the key aspects of hardware design and development for VLSI applications. The prime focus will be laid on the areas like VLSI system design, RF circuit design, ASIC design, FPGA based systems design and SOC based design and verification. The aspiring engineers studying this discipline at MCKVIE will be equipped for design and verification of electronics systems, circuits and its applications. These applications are more prevalent in areas like signal processing, image processing, networks and communication applications in the modern industries.

The EC–VLSI Design specialization Department under MCKV Institute of Engineering will be equipped with cutting-edge laboratories and enriching academic and industry partnerships to enable students with latest hands-on industry skills related with this field. Effective industry interaction opportunities will be facilitated for the VLSI Design students to help them gain more exposure and experiential knowledge in this domain.

Aspiring VLSI Design professionals require solid knowledge of digital fundamentals and software programming. The MCKVIE VLSI Design students will be endowed with a basic understanding of circuits, a necessary component for designing sophisticated robots.

Moreover, new age products like mobile phones are manufactured continuously with new features in increasingly shorter cycles thereby creating a healthy demand for qualified very large scale integration (VLSI) engineers to develop such devices. Students, who are passionate about electronics engineering, can find themselves with niche career opportunities in this sector.

The students pursuing B-Tech ECE with VLSI Design specialization from MCKV Institute of Engineering will take-up innovative projects to enhance their knowledge and skills in this field. The course will enable VLSI students to address key social challenges in the areas from healthcare to climate change, from agriculture to satellite launching. Moreover, improved VLSI technologies will transform the dynamics of working across industries.

The worldwide demand for efficient performance that is driven by telecommunications, the internet, smart networking and cutting-edge human interfaces necessitate the requirement of proficient professionals in VLSI Design.

VLSI Design is recently one of the fastest growing sectors of engineering in India. While traditional Electronics Engineering disciplines deal with a broader aspect of different domains related to it, VLSI Design is hinged on the process of creating an IC by installing millions of transistors into a single chip. Emerging industries in the modern era is trying to strengthen their R & D along with production. As a result, semiconductor companies that could facilitate the design and manufacture of core based products are emphasising on collaborative work projects. The strength of core-based design aligned with network application is the potential to grow performance to meet bandwidth demand. Moreover, dramatic improvements in weight, size and power are ideal for the growth of portable electronics. The necessity of machine dependent society, trade and business owing to pandemic COVID-19 will lead to phenomenal demand of VLSI engineers. This shift in industries will open up lucrative career possibilities for VLSI Design engineers in the years to come.

Emerging VLSI Design professionals can get lucrative and exciting placements in esteemed companies as application consultants, field application engineers and design engineers among many others. Over and above industry-oriented jobs VLSI Design engineers can also pursue research or teach in reputed institutions. VLSI engineering graduates can also choose to become Technopreneurs of small scale product manufacturing and services.
