Brief description of the Scholarship

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

With a view to assisting the meritorious students belonging to economically backward families in the State of West Bengal to pursue higher studies, the Govt. of West Bengal introduces this scheme of giving scholarships at different levels of higher studies, at educational institutions based in West Bengal. The Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme has been thoroughly revamped in the year 2016 to cover more number of students as well as to enhance the scholarship amounts significantly.

Aspirants of UG(Engg.) with 60% in 10+2, PG (Engg.) with 55% marks in graduation and other AICTE approved Professional Courses like MBA can avail this.

Scholarship Amount Available per month is Rs. 5000/-

Aikyashree

Merit Cum Means: This is for Meritorious Minority (Buddhist, Jain, Christian, Muslim, Parsee & Sikh) Students from domicile of West Bengal to study in an Institute in West Bengal.

Students with minimum 50% marks in qualifying exam are eligible to apply.

Annual family income should be within 2.5L per annum.

Kanyashree

Kanyashree’s one-time grant of Rs. 25,000/- is for girls who are between the ages of 18 and 19.

However, Kanyashree is NOT for ALL girls. Both the annual scholarship and the one-time grant are only for those girls who are:

· Residents of West Bengal AND

· Enrolled and regularly attending an educational institution AND

· Unmarried AND

· From families where the total income is not more than Rs.1,20,000 per year.

However, girls who are specially-abled (with a disability of 40% or more) or are living in a Home registered under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, or have lost both parents, may apply for Kanyashree even if their family’s income is more than Rs. 1,20,000 per year.

Different Scholarship Schemes are available from various ministries (E.g. Ministry of minority affairs, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment etc.) and departments (Department of Higher Education, Department of Empowerment of Persons with disabilities etc.) of the Central Govt.

This is from the Backward Classes Welfare Department, Govt. of WB.  Scholarship to the children of those engaged in Unclean Occupation. The beneficiaries of this scheme are the students of whose parents are flayers, tanners, scavengers, waste picking/collecting or engaged in similar other profession. The day scholars and hostellers of this category can also get grants. Online application can be done.

Scholarship Scheme AICTE towards Degree and Diploma Education for Girl students.

Amount of scholarship: Tuition Fee of Rs.30,000/- or at actual, whichever is less and Rs.2000/- per month for 10 months as incidentals charges each year. In case of Tuition fee waiver/reimbursement, Students are eligible to get an amount of Rs. 30,000/- for the purchase of Books / Equipment / Software / Laptop / Desktop / Vehicle / Fee paid towards competitive examination applications forms/exam.

Scholarship Scheme AICTE Degree and Diploma Education for Scholarship Scheme AICTE for SPECIALLY ABLED STUDENTS.

Amount of scholarship: Tuition Fee of Rs.30,000/- or at actual, whichever is less and Rs.2000/- per month for 10 months as incidentals charges each year.

In case of Tuition fee waiver/reimbursement, Students are eligible to get an amount of Rs.30,000/- for the purchase of Books / Equipment / Software / Laptop / Desktop / Vehicle / Fee paid towards competitive examination applications forms / exam / specific equipment / software’s for visually impaired/ speech and hearing disabled.

AICTE Swanath Scholarship

1) The candidate should be from any one of the following categories:
(i) Orphan
(ii) Either or both parents died due to Covid-19
(iii) Wards of Armed Forces and Central Paramilitary Forces martyred in action (Shaheed)

2) Family income from all sources should not be more than Rs. 8 Lakh per annum during the financial year of the application. A valid income certificate issued by State/UT Government is to be enclosed.

3) The candidate should be currently studying in the AICTE Approved institutions and courses at Degree/ Diploma level in regular mode.

There are two types of scholarship under AICTE Swanath Scholarship which are as follows :

· AICTE–SWANATH scholarship scheme (technical diploma)

· AICTE–SWANATH scholarship scheme (technical degree)

Zindal Scholarship

Private Scholarship Scheme offered by Sitaram Jindal Foundation. Category-“E” is for the Engineering UG and PG Courses. Monthly scholarship amount for UG Boys’ ang Girls’ are Rs.2300/- and Rs. 2000/- respectively. Also, monthly scholarship amount for PG Boys’ and Girls’ are Rs.3200/- and Rs.2800/- respectively.

Eligibility criteria: Obtaining 65% for Boys and 60% for Girls respectively in the qualifying exams.

Brief description of the Scholarship

1.

West Bengal Student Credit Card

A student from West Bengal can obtain a maximum loan of Rs.10 lakhs @4% per annum simple interest from the State Cooperative Bank and its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks and District Central Cooperative Banks and Public/ Private Sector Banks. 1% interest concession will be provided to borrower if the interest is fully serviced during the study period.

The upper age limit for the interested students has been kept as 40 (forty) years at the time of applying for loan. The repayment period shall be fifteen (15) years for any loan availed under this Credit Card including the Moratorium/repayment holiday.
