Automobile Engineering

Introduction

MCKVIE is the first college in the entire eastern India to introduce this course under the department of Automobile Engineering at the Degree Level way back in the year 2003. The department is being run by well qualified and experienced faculty members with several years of exposure in Automobile Engineering. The faculty members are pursuing research work regularly followed by national and international publication in their credit.

The department boasts of sophisticated Automobile Engineering Laboratories such as Engine Testing & Pollution Measurement Lab, Auto Scanning Lab (including various set-ups as Wheel balancing, Wheel Alignment, Headlight focusing etc). In addition to this, basic laboratories such as Chassis Components, Engine Component and Vehicle Maintenance Labs etc are also there in the department. Other basic laboratories like – Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Thermal Engineering, Metrology Lab etc have also been developed and is backed up by a modern workshop containing Carpentry, Smithy, Fitting, Welding, Machine Shop, Foundry Shop etc.

The department also boasts of a fully developed CAD Lab in collaboration with M/s Dassault System for designing of automobile components and a state of the art laboratory in Automobile Engineering in collaboration with M/s Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicle for detailed study of high power vehicle systems.

Programmes

B. Tech

Automobile is a fast moving sector requiring engineers who are conversant with the concept of product design, functional utility and integrated technology used in the manufacture of an Automobile. Students in our Institute are educated and trained competently in these areas. And our Automobile Engineers are already proving their quality and worth in the market.

The students in B-Tech level are encouraged to undertake live projects like development of Bio-diesel generating mini plant, Bi-Fuel mixing experimental set-up, experimental set-ups for measuring Centre of Gravity of vehicle etc. Six batches have graduated from the department. They are well placed in reputed automobile manufacturing organization in India. The students are also engaged in higher studies, both in India and abroad. The students are participating in national and international automobile engineering events such as BAJA-SAE and FALCON etc winning many prestigious prizes on regular basis. In the recent past our students participated in an Automobile Engineering event held in Colombo, Srilanka.

Intake Capacity: 60 [80% students are admitted from WBJEE, 10% from AIEEE, 10% from Management Quota] + 3 students are from TFW Quota

Additional 12 Students are admitted in 3rd Semester through JELET.

M. Tech in Automotive Technology

The post graduate course is so structured that the pass-out students will be able to design streamlined automobile body,  manual and automatic transmission systems, safety aspects,  hydraulic and power braking, conventional and power  steering system along with various  electronic sensors used in modern vehicle. On the other hand, the course will also enable the students to pursue higher studies and research work in automobile engineering.

The students having B.E/B.Tech in Automobile Engg, Mechanical Engg, Production Engg, Manufacturing Tech and Industrial Engg are eligible to take admission in M.Tech in Automotive Technology.

Intake Capacity: 18 [100% from PGET Examination conducted by WBUT]
